Just a Guide

Just a Guide
Jeff Kaus:
Hey, everyone. Jeff Kaus, myPro Realty, here again. Just wanted to reach out and give you an update on Erik. I know I gave him a little bit of grief yesterday about being lost in his 10-gallon hat, not knowing where he was. Come to find out, he was actually out on the road and doing some manual labor at one of our properties. So he was putting in the work, he just wasn’t able to get the video post out there for everybody yesterday. So hopefully he’ll be back today. I’ll see him this afternoon and find out if he’s going to be back on today or tomorrow and give you guys one of his spectacular updates.

In the meantime, I just wanted to share a little story with you. It does have to do with my family again, so I’m going to give my older son a little bit of grief today. Or actually, a little bit of props. He’s a college kid, and he’s been dealing with finishing up this semester at home. Well, like I said, he’s a college kid, so he’s up late and then does tend to sleep in in the morning. So I sometimes wonder what kind of schedule he’s on.

So he’s done with classes now, he’s done with exams, so he was ready to go to work this morning and had to be up at 6:30, or had to be at work by 6:30. So this was one of those things where I didn’t quite know if he was going to make it up on his own or not. I know sometimes we don’t give people the benefit of the doubt. We put our own thoughts and feelings on things, and kind of assume that people aren’t going to do what they need to do.

So I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I saw him up, and getting ready, and out the door in plenty of time to make it to work. He even made it to work I think probably about five, 10 minutes early, based on when he left. So it was good to see. I know he’s been sleeping in and everything, but when it mattered, he figured it out on his own, got up on his own, made it to work, and all is good.

But when it happened, it kind of made me think about a piece that we talk about in the real estate world, where for me as a realtor, I can view myself more as a guide. I don’t want to be considered the hero. The buyers and the sellers are the heroes of their own story. I’m just there to guide them along the process. So that comes from a book called StoryBrand. But really, it goes back to the, we can’t get caught up in the feeling or the need to make things right for other people, we have to let them kind of figure it out on their own. If they need a guide along the way, we can help them with it, but for the most part, we’re trying to let people make their own decisions.

I think this morning I was pleasantly surprised that things worked out, and then also a reminder that if you’re an agent, if you’re out there, by all means, let your clients be their own hero. If you’re a client and you want somebody to help guide you along the way, but don’t want to feel pressured into decisions, then obviously that’s a trait you’re going to look for in your agent as you’re choosing the right one.

So, again, just wanted to reach out. I know Erik will be back on, I’m guessing today or tomorrow. So watch for his video updates. I might be on again as well. If I brought my older son up, I probably should do a post that has to do with my younger son as well. So that might be coming in the next few days.

But in the meantime, I hope everybody, at least today, enjoys the weather. A little bit of rain coming in, and then next week, some beautiful weather, actually start to feel like spring. So if you have questions, as always, shoot me an email, shoot me a text, check out my other videos, check out my Facebook page, my website, jeffkaus.com, and in the meantime, have a great day.
